The Special Olympics Unified Triathlon is the first event of its kind, and Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) is very excited to be the leader of this experience. SOAZ is teaming up with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Red Rock, The DC Ranch Village Health Club and Spa and GE Financial to unite experienced triathletes, Special Olympics athletes, families, volunteers and community members in this exciting athletic competition.
The Sprint Triathlon will include a traditional sprint distance with a 300 yard pool swim, 20 K bike and 5K run. Participants will register online for an entry fee and have the option of creating their own fundraising page. From this page, the Triathletes can raise additional funds to increase their chances of winning great prizes and support Special Olympics Arizona!
What makes this event unique is the addition of a modified triathlon course for Special Olympics athletes, families, friends or anyone interested in participating to team up with others to compete in the race as a team or complete the entire modified course on their own. The modified course consists of a 0.5 mile run, 2.5 mile bike and a 50 yard swim.
Participants will register online using Kintera and collect pledges to support their triathlon and Special Olympics Arizona athletes. Triathletes in the Unified Triathlon will have the option of forming their own teams or being teamed up with others as the event gets closer.
