You may have seen CEO Tim Martin recently at a local Town Hall meeting. Tim has been traveling around the state talking to the Special Olympics community, hearing your concerns (and compliments) and talking about the restructure that Special Olympics Arizona will be going through in the next few years. SOAZ is planning to include details about the restructure on the website in the next few weeks, so that everyone state-wide can be apprised of the plan and subsequent updates. In the meantime, some of the relevant details about the restructure include:
Moving from 15 to 6 areas
Development and Administration staff in each area
Develop communication systems for all areas
Advisory Councils established in each area
State competitions will not change at this time
Focus will be to grow the areas and the area games
Create equality for all areas and give all athletes the same level of competition experience
Budget accountability/ managed by the staff in areas
Total implementation timeline 3-5 years
So far the feedback on the restructure has been quite positive! The task force will make the determination of the area breakdown by September 2010.
